Hawaiian Flowers

Hawaiian flowers are truly some of the most incredible flowers found on earth. One of the most remarkable facts about Hawaiian flowers is how they actually started to grow on the island of Hawaii. The state of Hawaii was formed from the lava of volcanoes millions years ago.

Given this fact, all flowers and vegetation that now grow on the island begun as pollen that miraculously floated thru the air and landed in Hawaii. In addition, birds where helping in part, by inadvertently carrying in seeds in there wings as the came to the island of Hawaii, this in turn allowed the seeds to fall off of the birds and begin sprouting on Hawaii soil.

As people finally discovered Hawaii and began to populate the area, they brought plants and flowers which are now instilled into the flower populace of Hawaii. The official state flower of Hawaii is the yellow hibiscus. Considered to be very rare, it is not often spotted. In addition to the state flower, each island of Hawaii has its own special official flower.

The yellow ilima flower is assigned to Oahu. The red obia is the flower of Big Island. Molokai's flower is the wonderful white colored kukui. Lanai's official blossom is the kaunaoa, which can be found in either the color orange or the color yellow.

To top it all off, the island of Kahoolaw is known for its official Hawaiian flower, the hinahina. Hawaii flowers are used in the ever popular leis and are seen on many surfboards in this high poplar surfing location. In fact, Hawaii flowers are so popular, that Lei Day is a yearly celebration held by residents.
